The pre-1850 landscape boasts of fruit-laden orchards, vegetable plots, and beds of heirloom flowers. The heirloom flowers contribute medicinal materials, dyes, seasonings, and other items for household use. Among these heirloom flowers are larkspur, Johnny jump-ups, bleeding heart, and pinks. Biennial heirloom flowers such as foxglove and forget-me-nots are recommended for planting. |
