Test anxiety and the effects of being interviewed.

Abstrakt: The article presents information on the testing of anxiety that differs from individual to individual. High and low scorers on the Test Anxiety Scale (TAS) performed a learning task following one type of interview experience and one type of instructional condition. The interviews differed with regard to content, either emphasizing one's reactions to tests or a less personal topic. The subjects performed following either achievement or neutral instructions. The results showed that the interview about test-taking reactions had a generally detrimental effect, and that this was especially true for high TAS subjects. An interview about a less personal topic had a decidedly positive effect on high TAS subjects. The findings were interpreted in terms of attention differences between high and low TAS subjects to stimulus situations.
