| Abstrakt: | The article highlights the continuing captivation of artistic century-old handcarved wooden carousels in 2013. Barely 100 of originals from the 1800s reportedly remain intact, but these treasures are being preserved, with artists restoring the unique works of European immigrant master carvers. The article notes that German Gustav Dentzel developed the Philadelphia style of carousel animals, while Danish Charles I. D. Looff originated the Coney Island style with elaborate ornamentation. |
