The article discusses a study that investigated circadian rhythms in intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Core body temperatures were determined over a 48-hour period in 21 patients. Seventeen patients had circadian phase position that fell outside the published range associated with morningness/eveningness. Findings show that circadian rhythms are altered in ICU patients, and that the degree of circadian abnormality is correlated with severity of illness. |
