| Abstrakt: | The article discusses the need for new terms used in stability assessment by avalanche professionals. Karl Birkeland and Ron Johnson of the Gallatin Avalanche Forecast Center introduced shear quality observations in the mid-1990s as a proxy for propagation potential when performing stuffblock tests, compression tests and other research-focused "small block" tests. The author presents two solutions that could address introduction of new terms in stability assessment. |
