The article focuses on a report released by Bruce Keogh, medical director at the British National Health Service (NHS), on the mortality in NHS hospitals. It discusses the use of standardized hospital mortality indicator (SHMI) and hospital standardized mortality ratio (HSMR). It states that the SHMI and the HSMR indicators are standardized to national performance of trust hospitals. It informs about the development of a new indicator on avoidable deaths in hospitals. |
