Persian Language was introduced in the Sub-Continent by the people who entered the region from the lands of West and Central Asia. The centuries long intercourse of these people with the local population speaking a host of languages resulted in the emergence of a hybrid language, now known as Urdu. Persian enjoyed the status of the language of court and culture for a long time, but gradually it was replaced with Urdu. Popular Persian texts were translated into Urdu as original writings in Urdu were equally increasing day by day. At the juncture of the eclipse of Persian and rising of Urdu, some Urdu texts were translated into Persian for the past oriented and conservative section of society. With the development of Urdu, quality writings started to appear in it in the late 19th century onward. It was time to translate the selected Urdu writings into Persian for the benefit of the neighboring Iranians and Afghans. The job was done, first by the writers from the Sub-Continent, but the 20th Century saw a few Afghans and Iranians busy in enriching their language though the translation of academic Urdu writings.
