The authors reflect on efforts to control and eliminate neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in Brazil. They suggest that Brazil remains the country with the largest burden of NTDs in terms of individuals requiring preventive chemotherapy and that NTDs are a major public health problem in Brazil. They argue that a strategic plan to eliminate several tropical diseases which was implemented by Brazil's Ministry of Health in 2012 is likely to address progress towards eliminating NTDs in Brazil. |
