The article reports that based on the findings of the Iowa Tri-County Steer Carcass Futurity (TCSCF) analysis of 70,000 cattle heads in 21 Iowa feedlots from 2002 to 2013, ranch owners and managers can significantly enhance the value of their cattle by vaccinating and weaning them for at least 30 to 45 days before feedlot arrival. In addition, they should also ensure that their chosen feedlot operation provides cattle with adequate pen space and enough time to rest, find water, and feed. |
