Abstrakt: The article focuses on the personality structures of art students. A survey of the psychological literature on artistic creativity reveals that there is general agreement that the artist must possess artistic ability or the capacity to express himself in a creative medium, training and development of this talent or the acquisition of technical skill to express what he has to say effectively, intelligence so he will know what he wants to say, and last, certain temperamental and motivational characteristics. The article presents a study concerned only with this last factor, the relationship between personality structure and artistic creativity, in this case, in the plastic and graphic arts. The present study was designed to check seven specific hypotheses derived from the analytic writings and from the empirical studies done. Some of the hypotheses are as follows (1) More artists than non-artists show conflict with their parents, (2) Fewer artists than non-artists give evidence of overt aggressive tendencies; (3) More artists than non-artists have intense guilt feelings. 30 outstanding art students at the Ohio State University served as subjects who had been recommended by their instructors on the basis of the originality and promise of their work.
