The article discusses developments relating to political risk and macroeconomic prospects for Latin America's Caribbean region as of August 2013. It addresses difficulties faced by Jamaica in maintaining its weak external financing position due to volatility in emerging market currencies. The effect of high unemployment and falling labor force participation on the private consumption growth of Barbados is addressed. Further interest rate cuts are predicted for the Dominican Republic in 2013. |
