Abstrakt: This article offers advice on time management. It is easy to disparage time management gurus and what often seems their obvious advice. But the best of these services can make a dramatic difference. Charles Hoffman, general manager of Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems in Saint Louis, Missouri, was struggling to manage an annual sales growth of 50 percent when he called on the Time Management Center of Saint Louis last fall, as of May 1989. Since the employees of Hoffman went through a seminar, he said they are getting a lot more done without big increases in staff. Through the filing system he learned at the seminar, Hoffman estimates that he saves an hour a day handling a tremendous amount of paperwork alone. Whatever their claims, no expert can single-handedly save you two or more hours a day. Larry Baker, president of the Time Management Center, cautioned there are no simple solutions to most time management problems. What the experts do offer is a commonsense approach toward organizing your life. But to benefit, you will need to apply this advice, and that requires discipline and perhaps changing lifelong habits. The foundation of effective time management is what might be called strategic time planning. Time management training is far better known for the advice it provides in how to deal with time wasters. For some people, time management will never work. Their personalities just are not suited to the strictures of being highly organized. No one time management system will work for everyone. It is best to look at several approaches before deciding which route to take. Still, getting the instruction is easy. Applying it is something else.
