The main objective of this study was to produce ultraviolet curable unsaturated polyester which was then reinforced by variable percentage of kenaf fibre. Unsaturated polyester resin based on palm oil was prepared by the interaction of monoglyceride monomer with maleic anhydride. Gel fraction of the composites increased as the percentage of kenaf fibre was increased up to 10% then decreased with higher kenaf percentage. The effect of kenaf loading on the dimensional stability of unsaturated polyester-reinforced composite showed a significant trend. Morphological study of the composites showed the evidence of the enhancement of compatibility between fibre and polymer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
