Bond Strength of Mild Steel in Polypropylene Fiber Reinforced Concrete.

Abstrakt: An experimental study was conducted to determine the effects of polypropylene fiber reinforcement on the bond between concrete and conventional mild steel reinforcement. Two fiber lengths, four fiber contents, and two water-cement ratios were used for this study, as well as two sizes of conventional mild steel reinforcement. The first series of tests investigated the differences in bond stress versus bar slip behavior using ASTM Standard Test Method C 234-71. A second series of tests was designed and used to indicate changes in the transfer lengths of the several different concrete mixes and mild steel reinforcement combinations. Results show that the addition of polypropylene fiber to the con-crete does not adversely effect the bond strength between the poly-propylene fiber reinforced concrete (PFRC) and conventional mild steel reinforcement. The PFRC studies exhibited bond strengths sim-ilar to conventional concrete. Thus, design equations intended for conventional reinforced concrete may also be used for PFRC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
