Abstrakt: The article examines the relationship between the development of U.S. national security and labor anticommunism through a case study of the 1941 prosecution of allegedly communist members of the Teamsters 544 Local union of Minneapolis, Minnesota, under the 1940 Smith Act. It is argued that this case demonstrates labor unions' willingness to allow the federal government, especially the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), to interfere in their affairs in the name of anticommunism.
