Abstrakt: A description of the laser-induced wave excitation of surface modes at a fluid-porous medium interface using the Biot model is presented. For the case of a material much heavier than the fluid, the porous frame behaves like an elastic medium in vacuum with a small frequency-dependent structural damping due to the viscous losses. Predictions concerning the shape of the Rayleigh-like wave are given. Measurements show the effect of scattering for ceramics of different pore sizes on this wave. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
