Abstrakt: The demand for electricity has grown at much faster rate than any other type of energy in recent years, and will continue to grow exponentially. The excessive demand for electricity is leading to fast depletion of conventional fossils fuels like; natural gas, coal, and oil. This necessitates the need to shift towards renewable energy sources like; solar, biogas and wind. Wind energy is seen as an ecological friendly and sustainable energy source, among other available renewable sources. The offshore wind farm capacity is growing rapidly, but it's uncertain and intermittent nature offers great challenges to utilities. This requires high-speed and robust communication network for the monitoring and controlling of wind farm. In this paper, we have proposed the communication network for medium size offshore wind farm (120MW). The wind farm consists of three groups; each group consists of 10 Wind Turbines (WTs), total capacity of 40 MW, connected in star configuration. The wind farm has been modelled in OPNET based on IEC 61400-25 standard. The performance of the wind farm communication network based on Transmission Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) has been evaluated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
