Experience gained from the use of the ADA-900 photometric analyzer at sections for the production of elemental sulfur of the Copper Plant of the Arctic Division of the Norilsk Nikel Mining and Metallurgical Company is analyzed and generalized from the point of view of its reliability and correspondence to the frequency characteristics of the gas that is being diagnosed. A correlation comparison of the concentration of the sulfur-containing components of the process gas following the sulfur collector and a comparison with the data of chromatographic analysis have demonstrated the low reliability of the determination by the ADA-900 analyzer of the concentration of hydrogen sulfide and of the ratio [HS/SO] in analyzed gas. Regular and independent calibration of the ADA-900 analyzer is required to achieve reliable monitoring of the Claus ratio in gases. Because of the dynamic characteristics of the sampling system and the optical vessel of the analyzer itself the ADA-900 analyzer may be used in a production process automatic control system TP only where there are no disturbances in the parameters of the process with periods less than ~10 min.
