He recommends that applicants focus on their future when discussing salaries, understand the chair's policies towards hirings, and inquire about contract parameters during negotiations. Other topics covered include researching precedents such as the experiences of other junior faculty members, following advice from mentors, and remaining polite and willing to compromise on topics such as salary and research support. |
