Abstrakt: The method of growing the colloidal crystals on the end face of optical fiber is researched. The wet chemical etching technique is used to etch single mode fiber to obtain a shallow circular-cavity between the coating and cladding. The optical fiber with the cavity is immersed upside into solution containing polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) spheres and the colloidal crystals are formed into the cavity. The fiber with colloidal crystals and another fiber are packaged. The transmission spectral is measured to confirm the band gap structure. The results show the micro-system can be used as fiber optical narrow-band filter. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
