While conventional GPR investigations are carried out on the surface/ 2D plane, delivering 2D information, Borehole Radar is applied in a 3D space. A borehole radar system for a total 3D space investigation has to distinguish between the directions around the tool axis to allow a 3D interpretation of the data. During the past decade a powerful tool was developed and applied by DMT which allows the exploration of the salt dome interior by borehole radar wireline service.
