Abstrakt: The article presents a study on reducing the rate of deep venous thrombosis (DVT) using smaller diameter peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC). It notes the increase in PICC use and the rise in PICC-associated upper extremity DVT rate. The prospective, observational study of PICC insertions included discussions to reach interdisciplinary consensus on the need for each lumen of the PICC and a change to smaller diameter 5F triple-lumen PICC, resulting to a decrease in PICC-associated DVT.
