The article discusses the influence of program rankings on the job prospects and later success of Ph.D. graduates, and argues that attending a lower-ranked program is not necessarily a disadvantage for graduates. The assertions that universities and colleges which focus more heavily on teaching than research sometimes have a bias against candidates from elite research universities and that graduates from lower-ranked programs often have the advantage of more teaching experience and less specialization are also presented. |
