Abstrakt: The author discusses institutional leadership qualities of college presidents in light of his experience advising university committee searches to hire college presidents. Topics include the role that presidents take in building consensus among colleagues, the author's view that this is less important than the ability to make tough decisions, as well as the difference in leadership styles between sitting provosts and chief academic officers.
