Abstrakt: This paper deals with detailed analyses of a current transformer (CT) and a voltage transformer (VT) under transient conditions. The aim of these analyses is to investigate instrument transformers' behavior during the fault operation in medium voltage networks. Accurate mathematical models of equivalent circuits for CT, respecting nonlinear B-H curve, and VT, respecting parasite capacities of secondary windings, are described. All parameters of defined equivalent circuits are investigated by means of FEM and by measurements. Obtained parameters are used in transient analyses of CT and VT. The simulated results are compared with measured ones on real CT and VT, obviously used in medium voltage networks. On the base of simulated and measured transients of both CT and VT, some important recommendations are given which transformer is more suitable to give a signal for a new fault location method based on triangulation principle.
