The article discusses a preliminary survey aimed at examining the prevalence and severity of gastro-intestinal parasitism in captive herbivores found at Sidhhartha Municipal Zoo in Aurangabad, India. Stool samples from deer, nilgai, chital, sambar and elephants were collected and analyzed for the presence of ova of helminthic parasites. It was found out that parasitic infestations caused the death of captive herbivores and decreased the animal's resistance to other infection. |
