Geometric cohesion in granular materials.

Abstrakt: The article offers information on geometric cohesion of particles. It states that an experiment was done to explore why pile of rods do not behave like ordinary sand and acts like a solid. It mentions that the pile would sometimes undergo small rearrangements around the intruder and show a fluctuating force with characteristics similar to those seen in ordinary sand. Observation showed that packings of rods with aspect ratios less than 30 flow like a liquid, it showed solid-like behavior.
