| Abstrakt: | A biography of North Dakotan folklorist and musician Franz Rickaby is presented, with focus given to his work collecting Midwestern lumberjacks' folk ballads. He worked as an English professor at the University of North Dakota and traveled, largely by foot, throughout Michigan and Wisconsin in order to document the area's lumber industry and collect songs for his book "Ballads and Songs of the Shanty-Boy." |
