The article discusses and presents charts and tables on U.S. trade in advanced technology products, motor vehicles and energy. It notes that the U.S. long ran a trade surplus in recognized high technology field like aerospace, biotechnology and optoelectronics, but that the surplus dropped sharply in 2000 and turned into a deficit starting in 2002. The U.S. reportedly incurs the largest deficits in vehicle trade with Japan, Mexico and Germany, and is also the world's top energy importer. |
