Abstrakt: A selective medium was used to recover Haemophilus aphrophilus from oral flora; without such a medium, the organism is overgrown by other bacteria and remains undetected. No strains isolated required increased CO2, since all grew well in air with added moisture. The data also suggest that hemin may not be required for primary isolation. This study indicates that H. aphrophilus is a component of the normal oral flora of a substantial percentage of the adult population. Therefore, the mouth is a likely source of the organism in cases of infection with H. aphrophilus. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
