Abstrakt:	A biography of James Herbert Soper, a botanist, is presented. He was born in Hamilton, Ontario on April 9, 1916 and studied at the Hamilton Central Collegiate Institute. He earned his undergraduate degree in Honours Chemistry in 1938 and his Master of Arts in Biology in 1939. He moved to Toronto, Ontario after his marriage and took up his first job as a teacher of botany at the University of Toronto.
