Abstrakt: |
The article discusses how to use popular culture as a method of teaching scientific concepts. It uses the television (TV) program "The Biggest Loser" to teach the concept of the sociological imagination by showing the disconnect between personal solutions for weight loss. The TV show shows several main components of social Darwinism. An exercise in thinking how contemporary culture contributes to overconsumption is said to be needed to teach students to progress beyond solutions to obesity. |
