The article discusses a research that attempted to use monogonont rotifer Brachionus calyciflorus to rear Cyprinus carpio fry and to examine their role in growth and survival of fry. Results reveal that C. carpio fry reared on B. calyciflorus cultured on mixed algae demonstrated better results as far as their weights, lengths, specific growth rate and condition factor were concerned. The fry reared on commercial diet, however, had better survival rates than those fed on rotifers. Meanwhile, rotifers fed on mixed live algae have high concentration of fatty acids. As such, rotifer is the best initial feed for fish fry. |
