This publication discusses the use of sewage sludge as a fertilizer on agricultural land and assesses its effects on human health and the environment. The assessment is said to be aimed at providing the Nordic countries a basis in the negotiation for an updated sludge legislation within the European Union (EU). The presence of organic pollutants in sewage sludge, the proposed effect based limit values (EBLs) for sludge and the long-term accumulation of pollutants in soil are tackled. |
