Giant cell myocarditis is a rare entity of unknown aetiology with a rapidly fatal course unresponsive to treatment. We describe below a patient with biopsy-proven gaint cell myocarditis who underwent sustained haemodynamic and histologic improvement with immunoSuppressive therapy. Giant cell myocarditis must be suspected in patients with rapidly progressive heart failure. If the clinical diagnosis is confirmed by the finding of multinucleated cells in the myocardium, institution of immunoSuppressive therapy may be lifesaving. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER] |
