The primary purpose of this study was to determine the level of internet addiction among university students in Jordan and how it varies by gender. A random sample of 755 students from one university located in the middle part of Jordan responded to a valid and reliable internet addiction instrument (Huang et al, 2007). Results of the study indicated that university students under study experienced moderate level of internet addiction as indicated by the overall mean values for the three dimensions of the instrument (conflicts, mood modification, and dependence). Results also indicated that there were no significant differences in the level of internet addiction based on differences in gender. Further, based on the qualitative segment of the instrument, it was found that university students spend, on average, 11.40 hours of weekly internet use. The study ended by offering a number of practical and theoretical recommendations for the field of study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
