Abstrakt: The previously derived algebraic model which is used to calculate regional deposition of monodisperse aerosols in the human lung has been extended to include the deposition of polydisperse aerosols. Regional mass depositon is obtained from the monodisperse model by numerical integration and is then subject to statistical analysis in order to determine its dependence on physical and physiological parameters. It is shown that regional mass deposition can throughout be described as functions of the geometric standard deviation of the (log-normal) particle size distribution. As a result, mass deposition in the nose, in the extrathoracic, bronchial, bronchiolar and alveolated airways is given as function of gender, age, breathing pattern, and of the mass median diameter and geometric standard deviation of the particle distribution.
