A method for evaluating attendance at a Senior Citizen Center is presented. Systematic timesample recordings provided an accurate description of engagement in specific activities, and indicated the proportion of persons engaged in any activity for each observation period throughout each program day. Such information is easily collected by non-professional observers, is highly reliable, directs attention toward activities and times of the day needing remediation, and contributes to the development of an empirical taxonomy of activities.
