Abstrakt: In a randomized investigation of urinary tract infections of non-pregnant women in general practice the effects of the following three treatments were compared: cefadroxil 1·0 g single dose for 3 or 7 days and amoxycillin 375 mg tid for 7 days. The preliminary results when 155 patients had entered the study were as follows: 121 could be evaluated and 34 were excluded; 44, 38, 39 were randomized to each treatment. Primary success (control at 1 week post-treatment) was 37/44, 33/38 and 37/39. Five weeks after treatment the figures were 32/44, 28/38 and 31/39 respectively. Sixty-nine per cent of the cases were due to infections with Escherichia coli and 26 % with Staphylococcus saprophyticus. The study will continue. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
