Abstrakt: Mecillinam, a 6β-amidinopenicilanic acid derivative has been shown to inhibit E. coil, Kiebsiella spp., Enterobacter spp., Citrobacter spp., Shigeila spp. and Salmonella spp. with a mean minimum inhibitory concentration of 1 to 6 μg/ml. Serratla, indole-positive Proteus and Pseudomonas spp. were resistant as were Gram-positive cocci and bacilli. Mecillinam when combined with β-lactam compounds such as amoxydihin or cephalothin synergistically inhibited many organisms which were resistant to both agents singly. Combination of mecillinam and penicillins did not show synergy against Gram-positive cocci, and mecillinam did not act synergistically with aminoglycoside antibiotics against either Gram-positive cocci or Gram-negative bacilli.
