Abstrakt: Eleven members of a Senior Citizens' Creative Writing Class authored essays that were evaluated from the standpoint of Havighurst's hypotheses regarding the subjective experience of aging. Two of his proposed categories—an awareness of aging but feeling unchanged and a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment—received support from the authors, none of whom appeared to be experiencing a third proposed category, namely, that of having changed from a participant in living to being merely an observer. Although a central theme of loss emerged, it was expressed in ways that did not evoke sadness in the readers. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
