Abstrakt: The article offers authors' insights on the construction of mathematical models to identify the development and growth of the giant kelp Macrocystis pyrifera from New Zealand. The authors discuss the interaction between mathematics and biology, collaboration of mathematician and marine botanists, and the application of mathematics in marine botany. They mention that the discrete models can be used for students on presenting real applications of elementary mathematics to scientific problems.
