Abstrakt: Suggests that when alveolar type II epithelial (ATII) cells were injured, the injury initiate signals in nearby survivor cells. Increase of intracellular free calcium concentration ([Ca2+]i) once the wounded rat ATII monolayers propagated outward as a wave at 300 micrometers; Production of [Ca2+]i wave in surviving cells in wounding; Release of soluble factors in the extracellular space during injury.
