Brief Background: Verruca vulgaris is a benign, virus induced, focal hyperplasia of stratified epithelium. It is very commonly found on skin and is caused by cutaneous human papilloma virus and is very uncommon in oral cavity. Oral lesions are relatively rare. The paper describes a case of verruca vulgaris and its management. Materials and Methods: A patient with clustered papillary lesion present behind maxillary right lateral incisor with pointed surface projections was diagnosed as a case of verruca vulgaris and treated with excision followed by cautery. An excisional biopsy was performed and sutures placed. The excised mass was sent for histopathological examination. Discussion: The causative factor of Verruca vulgaris, its rarity in oral cavity, its characteristics and size, histopathology, lesions considered in differential diagnosis, treatment modalities are matters that form the subject of discussion. Summary and Conclusions: Verruca vulgaris is benign lesion which usually affects skin and rarely occurs on oral mucosa. Chances of recurrence are less and lesion doesn't show malignant changes and, sometimes in untreated cases, the lesion disappears within 2-3 years. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
