The article examines the key historical features of the relationship between sport and religion and provides insight on how the Protestant Church continues to pursue sport as a form of outreach and ministry. It mentions the involvement of clergy in sporting provision, with some proving to be instrumental in the establishment of major sports, during the mid- to late 19th century. It also notes the possibility that major sporting events can be used as evangelistic opportunities. |
