This descriptive survey sought the perceptions of Jamaican middle managers of the importance of selected workplace skills and personal qualities. The 21 item questionnaire consisted of four demographic questions and a list of 17 technical and nontechnical necessary workplace skills as determined by the Secretary's Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills (SCANS). The sample surveyed represented 16 middle management units in five telecommunication, insurance and financial organizations in the Kingston Metropolitan Area (KMA). The findings revealed that the top 10 rated employment skills and personal qualities are; integrity and honesty, service to clients/customers, decision making, team work, time management, creative thinking, problem solving, speaking, computer knowledge and leadership. These preliminary findings have implications for; a comprehensive survey of managers and supervisors in the Jamaican workplace, the revision of tertiary curricula and human resource development programmes and also for the sensitizing of entry level workers to the employability demands of the workplace.
