The article provides information on Qatar and its relations with the U.S. Qatar gained its independence from Great Britain on September 3, 1971. Qatar has a relatively large profile due to its strategic location, leaders' multifaceted foreign policy and explosive economic growth. It also mentions that the Qatar-U.S. relations only strengthened after the Persian Gulf War in 1991 despite the opening of a U.S. embassy in Doha in 1973. |
