Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Probability at _ birth of dying from CVD is 47 vs. 22% from cancer. USA: 36.3% of 2.39 million deaths in 2004. One in every 36 s. Leading cause of hospital admissions: CAD 16% (1979–2003). 68% of patients who experience an MI have less than 50% stenosis at the time of the event. According to the American Heart Association, 62% of women and 50% of men who died suddenly of coronary heart disease had no warning from prior symptoms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
