Countries in Europe and Central Asia (ECA1) face the same broad energy challenges as the world at large, with some regional distinctions. This chapter makes the case that modernization of national hydro-meteorological capacity to provide high-quality weather/climate services could help capture emerging economic gains, enable risk management in the energy sector, and support national economies in multiple sectors.
