New ionic liquids bearing an imidazolium core have been prepared in an attempt to design new ˵liguids″ for liquid/liquid extraction of Persistent Toxic Substances. Trends in the properties of these liquid compounds are discussed. The synthesized salts represent a novel class of solvents and may be considered as a new medium for liquid/liquid extraction.
